The Tara River Canyon is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Balkans and the deepest canyon in Europe. Stretching for more than 80 kilometers and reaching depths of around 1,300 meters, it is also one of the deepest river canyons in the world.

The canyon lies mainly in northern Montenegro and partly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cutting through the dramatic mountains of the Dinaric Alps. A large part of the canyon is protected within Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its pristine forests, glacial lakes and remarkable biodiversity.

The emerald waters of the Tara River have earned the nickname “Tears of Europe” because of their exceptional purity. Over thousands of years the river carved its way through limestone cliffs, creating a breathtaking landscape of steep rock walls, waterfalls, caves and dense forests.
